My ring

A reader asked me yesterday about the ring I am wearing in two of the profile photographs on my blog – one of these photos is shown below in larger format

The ring actually looks a bit different in real life than it does in this photograph.

This was my engagement ring, designed by my then-husband and Hedwig Westermark of Smide och Form in Stockholm. The original ring is the one in the middle and has one centre stone of half a carat and three down each side of approximately one quarter carat each.

These stones and gold came from my maternal and paternal grandmothers’ rings, a ring my best friend gave me, and my mother’s rings. This ring is, for that reason, irreplaceable. I wear it every day, on the ring finger of my left hand.

For our eleventh anniversary my husband gave me the band on one side and we then got the matching one and both were soldered to the main ring. Each has eleven diamonds in it.

It is very heavy but I have been wearing it since 1998 or so and my finger feels really bare without it.

I have sold most of my diamond jewellery as I never used to wear it but this and two other rings I wear every day. I can show those too if anyone is interested – just pop a comment below.
